This Week at the Tasting Bar
Because The Savvy Wine Cellar will be closed on Saturday, July 4, be sure to come in Thursday from 5-8 p.m. for this week's wine tasting at the Tasting Bar.  Here's what we're pouring:

Azevedo Gazela Vinho Verde, 2008, Portugal This is a perfect wine to kick back and relax with.  It is an irresistibly bright and fruity white wine.  The bouquet is a lively mix of citrus and flora aromas.  The soft apricot and grapefruit flavors give way to a surprising bubbly mouth feel.  This wine has a crisp acidity with a nice, strong minerality.

Mountain View Vintners Chardonnay, 2007, California (Central Coast) Rich tropical fruit flavors and ripe varietal flavors are balanced by a crisp acidity.  This wine is going to please a wide range of palates-novice drinkers to aficionado!

Chateau Lafayette Reneau Pinot Noir Blanc, 2007, New York (Finger Lakes) This is New York State's favorite Rosé.  Pinot noir grapes produce this blushing pink wine with a ripe strawberry nose.  Ample bodied with bright fruit flavors.  A giant step above White Zinfandel!

Mountain View Vintners Pinot Noir, 2007, California (Amador County) Ripe berry fruit on the nose meets bright cherry and plum flavors in the mouth.  There is also a hint of oak in the finish which also compliments the crisp, acid finish.

White Stone Vineyards Heavyweight Red Cabernet Sauvignon, California (Lodi)
Here's the perfect wine for your Fourth of July cheeseburger or rib-eye steak.  Blackberry and currant aromas hit your nose and then linger.  The rich fruit flavors aren't feint or try to dodge, but are straight ahead and swarming.  Like the best heavyweights, the flavors come at you in combinations and, by the time you figure one out, you get hit with another. You won't want to miss a taste of this wine!

See you on Thursday!

"Pick of the Week"
We're starting a new feature in the newsletter and we're calling it "Pick of the Week."  Every week Dale or Allison will give you a recommendation on a wine you just won't want to miss.

What makes a wine a "Pick of the Week" wine?   First of all, when we tasted it and said to each other: "WOW."  So, great taste is criteria number one.  After taste, comes value.  It if tastes great and has a great price attached, we want to share it with you.  That's pretty much how we decide on a "Pick." And since, we taste many, many, many wines every week, we're sure we're going to be able to share some great "Picks" with you.

Here's our very first "Pick of the Week."  Selected by Allison, it is the Tenimenti Angelini Tuttobene Toscana Rosso.  It is a Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo blend from Tuscany.  Here's why she thinks you should try it.

The Tenimenti Angelini wine estate-the producer of this wine-is well known for its more expensive fine wines such as Val di Suga from Brunello di Montalcino, for instance, or the San Leonino Chianti Classico. These are beautiful wines, for sure, but come at a much higher price.

The Tuttobene Rosso is more like a poor man's Super Tuscan.  It's a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Canailo that is absolutely delicious. It has aromas of plum, blackberry, and a little bit of earth which continue in the mouth.  There are also some slight tannins which lead to a medium-bodied finish. This is a great everyday wine that will make be a perfect Italian red for pizza, pastas with red sauces and spicy sausages. And at a price of $13.99/bottle, it is definitely a Pick of the Week!
