L
de Leyth Merlot, 2006 is rich and concentrated
with layers of juicy plum, black currant and coffee nuances. This
is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine that finishes with polished tannins
allowing the ripe fruit flavors to show through.
Joel Gott
Zinfandel, 2007 combines fruit from Lodi, Amador, Sonoma
and Napa, giving this wine power, depth and complexity. This produces a
Zinfandel packed with flavors of licorice, plums, bing cherries and
blackberries with a deep, long finish.

Answers to
"How Savvy You?" Questions
Question 1
What grape in California has similar DNA to the Italian grape
Primitivo?
Answer: Zinfandel. According to research in Croatia and the
University of California at Davis Zinfandel and the Italian grape,
Primitivo, contain the same DNA. The reason for this may be that
both grapes are clones of a Croatian grape variety, Crljenak.
Question 2
What is the primary red grape grown on the \"left bank\" in
Bordeaux (France)?
Answer: The Left Bank has soils with higher gravel content that favor
Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. French wines from the Left Bank usually
require more time to mature and will age for years.
Question 3
What are Americans drinking more of today...more red wine or more white
wine?
Answer: For the third straight year, Americans are expected to drink more
red wine than white, thanks to a projected 3 percent increase in red wine
consumption in 2008, to 121 million cases, an all-time high according to
the recently-released The U.S. Wine Market: Impact Databank Review and
Forecast, 2008 edition. White wine consumption is also expected to grow
this year, but by a slightly slower 2 percent rate to 118 million cases.
