Calling All Wine Corks!

The Tasting Bar

Our breast cancer awareness fundraising efforts kick into high gear tonight and Saturday.  Join us at The Tasting Bar and sample three wines from two producers who donate a portion of their wines' profits to breast cancer research funding.  Hope Estates and Cline Cellars are the producers, and we have three of their wines.  We'll also be pouring two "pink" wines that remind us that there is always room to do more. See you tonight from 5-8 and Saturday 1-5 p.m. Here's the line up:

Gran Sarao Brut Rosé Cava, NV, Spain
Hope Estate 'Pink Awareness' Chardonnay, 2008, Australia (Hunter Valley)
Domaine Houchart Côtes de Provence Rosé, 2008, France (Côtes de Provence)
Cline Cellars Cashmere (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend), 2007, CA (Paso Robles)
Hope Estate 'Pink Awareness' Shiraz, 2008, Australia (Hunter Valley)

Don't forget to drop off your corks and enter our Corks for Cancer prize drawing.  No purchase is necessary and you can enter as many times as you want.  All you have to do is bring us your corks by October 31.  Click here for more information on Corks for Cancer.

Savvy Cooking Recipe of the Week
Here's a recipe that uses your slow cooker.  We love slow cookers because we can begin a meal in the morning before we come to work and it's ready and smelling all nice and yummy by the time we get home at night.  This week's recipe comes to us from Epicurious.com.  It's Slow-Cooked Carnitas Tacos with Roasted Tomatillo Salsa. It's quick, easy and delicious.  Here's the link to the recipe.

Try it with any of these wines:
Care Tinto Syrah Tempranillo Blend, 2007, Spain $12.99/bottle
Castlebank Old Vine Zinfandel, 2007, California $14.99/bottle
Ortman Cuvee Eddy Red Blend, 2006, California $19.99/bottle

How Savvy Are You?
Have you been keeping up with our weekly quizzes on our web site?  Bet you're getting pretty savvy about wine.  Click here to find out how many you answered correctly this week.

12% Tuesday
Next week's 12% Tuesday discount goes to any wine that is a 'blend'.  It doesn't matter if it's a blend of two grapes or six; if it's from Australia, Italy, California, France...or anywhere else.  They're all getting a discount of 12%.  Maybe you like a Shiraz/Viognier or a Grenache, Syrah Mourvedre blend.  You can get it for less on Tuesday, October 27.  But you'll miss it if you wait until Wednesday, because it's good for Tuesday, October 27, only.  (12% Tuesday discount cannot be combined with wines already on sale or End of Bin Special wines.)

Hope to see you in the shop this week.  Thanks for your support of The Savvy Wine Cellar. We appreciate your interest and your business.
