Calling All Wine Corks!

We blinked and summer was gone!  Well, not exactly, but things sure are changing pretty rapidly, aren't they? It's time to think about moving from very light white, Rosé and lighter red wines into something a little different...maybe a little bigger or with a hint of vanilla or spice.  That's exactly what we are pouring this week at The Tasting Bar-Wines that Transition from Summer into Fall.  You can come in and sample three delicious white and two sumptuous red wines sure to please your palate.  These are wines that can be enjoyed while the weather is still a little warm but are sure to comfort you as it turns cooler. And this week we've added an additional evening for you to stop in and taste them.

To help kick off the 2009 SU Football Season, in addition to our regular Thursday 5-8 and Saturday
1-5 p.m. tastings, we will also be tasting wines this Friday, September 4, from 5-8 p.m. That's right folks.  You'll still be able to taste our wines this week AND cheer the Orange on to victory on Saturday afternoon.  Check out what we're pouring.

This Week at the Tasting Bar
Anyela's Vineyards Dry Riesling, 2008, New York (Finger Lakes)
Kingsford Manor Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, 2008, California (Napa Valley)
Familia Rutini Trumpeter Chardonnay, 2007, Argentina (Mendoza)

The Savvy Sale Continues
Folks liked our sale so much last week that we've extended it through Saturday, September 5.  What's even better for you is the fact that we've added additional wines to the sale inventory and lowered prices even more.  So, make sure you get in and get some before they're all gone!

"Pick of the Week"
This week's pick is one of Allison's new "faves."  It's the 2008 Domaine Des Anges Côtes du Ventoux.  A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, this beautifully handcrafted wine has complex aromas of citrus and tropical fruit.  It has a full, round palate; grapefruit and pear flavors; and a touch of creaminess on the finish.  It's a unique, affordable every day wine from the Rhone region of France.  Make sure you taste a sip of it when you stop by the shop Thursday, Friday or Saturday. It's a great tasting, great value wine on sale at $13.49/bottle.

Something New at The Savvy Wine Cellar
Tailgate Bags-Dale and Allison have a soft spot in their hearts for Syracuse University.  Dale is a graduate of SU and had season football and basketball tickets for over 20 years before moving away.  And so to help folks get into the tailgating spirit and enjoy the new season we've created The Savvy Tailgate Bag.   Much like our Savvy Sampler case packs, all the tasting notes are included in the Savvy Tailgate Bag for you to read and then look like a real wine expert when pouring the wines for your friends! And if you're not going to the big game but are watching it at home with family and friends, the wines in The Savvy Tailgate Bag will work for you, too!
Here's what we've assembled:
· The Red Savvy Tailgate Bag:  Two bottles each of The Red One; Cortijo Ill Tinto Rioja; and Sawbuck Cabernet Sauvignon. Specially priced to sell at $63.99.
· The Mixed Savvy Tailgate Bag:  One bottle each of Excelsior Chardonnay; Dry Creek Fumé Blanc; Yard Dog White; Hanging Vine Pinot Noir; Marietta Old Vine 49; and Finca El Origen Reserva Malbec. Specially priced to sell at $63.99.

The Savvy Wine Cellar Open on Sundays
That's right...beginning Sunday, September 13, The Savvy Wine Cellar will be open from 1-5 p.m.  Now you have one more day to stop by and get a few of your favorite wines.

Savvy Cooking
This week's Savvy Cooking idea is a keeper AND a winner.  It comes to us from a web site called: Californiagrown.org. There were several terrific recipes to choose from but we selected the Grilled Salmon with Lemon and Ginger as prepared by cookbook author and TV host Chef Tori Ritchie.  We like it because it's light, simple and quick to prepare.  And suggestions for accompanying dishes make it easy to put together an entire meal.  It would be fun to prepare for a last-bash-of-summer cookout, a busy back-to-school-night dinner or a cozy Friday night supper. Here's the link to the site and the recipe.

Chef Tori suggests pairing this dish with a Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sparkling Wine or Pinot Noir.  We sampled the recipe and here's what we think might pair nicely with the recipe:
Hazlitt 1852 Gewurztraminer, 2007 ($11.99/bottle)
Matchbook Chardonnay, 2007 ($14.99/bottle)
Hanging Vine Pinot Noir, 2008 ($14.99/bottle)
Domaine Dupeuble Pere et Fils Beaujolais, 2008 ($14.99/bottle)
