On Thursday
night we are delighted to have winemaker, Stephen Black (Mr. Black's
Concoction a The Formula Shiraz) pouring his wines for us (and talking
about them, too) at The Savvy Wine Cellar. He's come all the way
from Australia just to tell us about how he makes these wines and two
others. If you're already a fan of Mr. Black's wines, you don't
want to miss this event. And to make it even more enticing to
you, we're going to give you a 15% discount when you purchase any of
his wines. But there's a catch, the discount is good on Thursday
night, October 8, only. Don't miss an opportunity to SAVE BIG on
these wines. Even though Mr. Black won't arrive until 7, we'll still
begin our tasting of his wines at 5 p.m.
Then, on Friday from 5-8 and Saturday from 1-5 p.m., we'll be
celebrating Columbus Day at The Tasting Bar and featuring five terrific
wines. Since Chris was of Italian heritage, we've picked two delightful
wines (a white from Umbria and a red from Tuscany) to pay a little
homage to him. And, because King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella,
financed his little venture, we thought we'd taste three wines ( one
white, one rosé and one red) from three different regions of
Spain.

Corks for Cancer
We've been collecting wine corks for months now and have been promising
folks that we were planning on doing something special with them.
We're now prepared to act on that promise and we're asking you to get
involved. We counted up all the corks on the floor in the front of
our store and have (roughly) 8,000. During the month of October
we'd like you to bring us more corks...as many as you can gather...so
that, together, we can help in the research to find cures for breast
cancer and lymphoma. Bring us your corks and we'll add them to our
already collected 8000. At the end of the month we'll tally up the new
cork number and The Savvy Wine Cellar will donate $.02 per cork to the
Central New York Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Foundation
and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central New York. We'll
divide the donation evenly between these two associations.
Savvy Cooking
We love Foodnetwork.com. We find wonderful recipes and great ideas
for quick meals, elegant dinners and festive holiday cooking. Since
we enjoy making soup, we loved the "50 Easy Soups" article on
their web site. It begins with a basic chicken soup recipe
and then follows with ideas for other chicken based soups like, our
favorite, Escarole and White Bean. Pair this with Bogle Vineyards
2006 Chardonnay (on sale at $9.99/bottle) or Castle Rock 2008 Pinot Noir
(on sale at $11.99/bottle). Here's a
link to the Foodnetwork.com web site and the "50 Easy Soups"
recipe.
