July

July 28: Tuesday: 7 p.m.—‘How to Taste Wine Like a Pro’ Class—Find out what all those geeky wine terms actually mean; learn how to identify aromas and flavors associated with specific wines. Beginners, as well as seasoned wine lovers, are welcome. This class has always been very popular with Savvy fans and it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn how to taste from in a very relaxed atmosphere! Registration is required. Class size limited to 35 persons and, as always, is free of charge. Click here to register.

July 31 and August 1: Friday: 5 to 8 and Saturday 1 to 5 p.m.—Wines for the Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer Tasting—As we roll from July to August, hopefully the weather will be hot and hazy—perfect for the wines at this tasting. No registration is necessary for this free tasting.

August

August 6: Thursday: 7 p.m.—Varietal Education—Sauvignon Blanc—Did you ever wonder why Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand has a completely different flavor profile than those from California or France? This mystery and other fun facts about this popular varietal will be revealed! Registration is required for this class. Click here to register.

August 7: Friday: 5-8 p.m.—Special Wine Tasting and Pairing with Azella Alvarez, Owner of Oompa Loompyas—Before they become the “next greatest thing” at this year’s New York State Fair, taste Azella’s specialty— lumpia: bite-sized, crispy fried egg rolls traditionally filled with seasoned pork and beef. Lumpias are very popular in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia and Ms. Alvarez is a master at making them. You may have sampled them at this year’s Taste of Syracuse. Dale and Allison have enjoyed them on several occasions at Savvy staff get togethers and at the home of friends. Here’s your chance to get on the Oompa Loompya bandwagon. Come over for a taste of delicious lumpias AND the wines we’re pairing with them. No registration is necessary for this free tasting.

August 8: Saturday: 1-5 p.m.— Hot Fun in the Summertime Tasting—Sure, it’s hot, but we love it. Remember last February? ‘Nuff said. It’s time to have some fun at The Tasting Bar with four fun summer wines. No registration is required.

August 11: Tuesday: 7 p.m.—Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris—What’s the difference? Join us for a lively discussion of Italy’s most famous white grape. Taste Italian Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris from several other wine regions and discover if there is a difference. Registration is required. Click here to register.

August 14&15: Friday 5-8 and Saturday 1-5 p.m.—Backyard Barbeque Wines Tasting—Taste four wines that are perfect matches for your summer barbeque. No registration is required.

August 21&22: Friday 5-8 and Saturday 1-5 p.m.—The Last Blast of Summer Tasting—This tasting needs no description except to say that there’s no better way to say good-bye to summer than sharing a bottle of tasty wine with friends. Come taste with us and bring some home with you. No registration is required.

August 28&29: Friday 5-8 and Saturday 1-5 p.m. .—Are You Ready for Some Football? Tasting—Get ready because it’s almost here. The Syracuse Orange has its first game of the 2015 season on Friday, September 4, and you want to be ready for it. Make sure you get your game-watching wine ahead of time at this week’s tasting. And, oh yeah, National Football League’s first game of the season is on September 10. Yet another reason to get ready! No registration is necessary.

September 30: Wednesday: 5-8 p.m.—Special Tasting Event—The Wines of Red Tail Ridge Winery— Red Tail Ridge is the Finger Lakes first LEEDS Gold Certified Winery. Located on the western shore of Seneca Lake, we’re proud to say that we’ve stocked these wines since first opening our doors in 2009. Tasting Room manager, Danielle Van Gheem is special guest pourer and she will happily answer your questions about Red Tail Ridge and how these terrific wines are produced. No registration is required.
