Open that Bottle Night Recently, over a bottle of wine, our good friends, Jack and Kandy Daley, told us about an annual wine phenomenon called “Open that Bottle Night.” Here’s how it works:

Everybody has a bottle of wine that they’ve been saving. You know… Perhaps you visited a winery— either close to home or far away—and purchased a bottle of wine that you designated as “special occasion wine” and you’ve been saving it ever since. Or, maybe you found a great deal on a pricey wine with a good rating one from one of the wine magazine reviewers and it’s been sitting in your cellar or wine rack for a long time just waiting to be opened up and enjoyed. Anyone who is a wine lover has one (or more) of those bottles that you’ve been meaning to open but, for whatever reason, you haven’t. Well, we’re giving you the perfect reason.

National “Open that Bottle Night 2012” is Saturday, February 25 and we invite you to pull out that special bottle, open it up and drink it. Then, we’d like you to tell us about it. Send us an e-mail and tell us about the wine: Producer, varietal or blend, vintage, when you bought it and why it is so special to you that you just haven’t been able to crack it open. We’d also like to know if you shared it with anyone and if you drank it with a meal or sipped it without food. And, finally, we’d like to know what you thought of the wine. E-mail us your story and we’ll send you a response with a coupon for $2.00 off your next purchase. On March 4 our Savvy Wine Cellar Story Review Board (groan) will look at all the submissions and select an overall winner. The top entry will receive a bottle of La Follette Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay, 2010, from California. This is a $30.00 value.

Dale and I—and our staff—will all be opening up one of our special bottles and sharing our stories with you in our newsletter. We’ve been saving a couple of beautiful reds in our cellar at home and it’s time to crack them open! So, circle February 25 on your calendar and get that bottle ready to open.
